Bloomberg reports that NVIDIA has the blame for losing the Activision Blizzard games on their cloud gaming service GeForce NOW. Following an official statement from NVIDIA, it’s now confirmed that a “misunderstanding” has caused the removal of all Activision Blizzard games from the platform.
“Activision Blizzard has been a fantastic partner during the GeForce Now beta, which we took to include the free trial period for our founders membership,” Nvidia said in an official statement. “Recognizing the misunderstanding, we removed their games from our service, with hope we can work with them to re-enable these, and more, in the future.”
NVIDIA promised that GeForce NOW would be ‘Open Platform’ this means that players who has purchased a game on Steam or Epic Games Store will be available to keep playing the game via GeForce NOW. It’s a big inconvenience for NVIDIA to break that promise to subscribers, specially when there are other alternatives on the cloud gaming market.
“If you buy it, you own it. If you already own it, play it. Your purchases are always yours.” … “In total, there are hundreds of games from more than 50 publishers that, once you own, are available for instant play. All these games are patched automatically in the cloud, so your library is always game ready.”
GeForce NOW has a free subcription allowing standard access up to one hour of session length, a “Founders” subscription cost $4.99 a month, it gives players priority access, extended session length, RTX technology.
“We’ve reached a point in our journey where we’re ready to remove the waitlist, exit beta and open GeForce NOW up to even more gamers. Members will have the option of a free or premium experience.”
It was also announced that for a limited time, NVIDIA is offering a premium experience as a Founders membership, this would grant subscribers their first three months of service for free.
