AMD has just announced the Radeon VII, the world’s first 7nm gaming graphics card, with this announcement started a new era of the GPU wars, Nvidia thought it had it with it’s GeForce RTX 2080 with its DLSS and Ray Traycing technology, but AMD today strikes back with a move that it appears that took Nvidia on surprise, the Radeon VII is the world’s first 7nn gaming graphics card, and while Nvidia CEO Jen-Hsun Huang underestimate the Radeon VII, being the first 7nn GPU will surely get an advantage in the marketing area of AMD.
Nvidia CEO, Jen-Hsun Huang while talking to journalist called the Radeon VII “underwhelming” and it bashed AMD for its “lousy” performance and lack of innovation.
“The performance is lousy and there’s nothing new,” Jen-Hsun reportedly says. “No ray tracing, no AI. It’s 7nm with HBM memory that barely keeps up with a 2080. And if we turn on DLSS we’ll crush it. And if we turn on ray tracing we’ll crush it.”
“It’s a weird launch, maybe they thought of it this morning,” continued Huang.
AMD CEO Lisa Su, didn’t take much to answer back this is what she said:
“We’re very excited about Radeon VII,” “And I would probably suggest that he hasn’t seen it yet.”
It all sounds rather reactionary, as opposed to the standard, media-trained, rehearsed responses you would normally expect from a company CEO talking about a competitor’s new product. In all honesty it makes it sound like the Radeon VII was a huge surprise for Nvidia and that it hadn’t seen and RTX 2080-level competition coming from AMD.
