Observer: System Redux, a remake of 2017’s psychological horror Observer, is coming to next-gen consoles and PC November 12th, 2020. Set in the dystopian, cyberpunk 2084, after the Nanophage, a digital plague leaving the world in ruin, corporations have taken power after the governments fell. The game has players in the shoes of Noir-inspired detective Daniel Lazarski as he attempts to find his son in a point-and-click mystery leading him down a rabbit hole of corporate conspiracy. The remake comes with additional content in the form of three new side cases to solve, all meddling with the concepts of life after humans have depleted the earth of its resources and are too dependent on technology, in classic cyberpunk fashion. The remake also contains graphical upgrades including HDR lighting, 4K resolution, new animations, and Ray-Tracing.“We’ve been able to make a more immersive world with the next gen technology,” says developerBloober Team. “Skillful use of lighting made possible by next gen technology, in combination with the newly available 4k textures, special effects like smoke, fog and rain have allowed us to create a world that is more dystopian, but truly cyberpunk.”The new models, textures, and tweaks to the gameplay mechanics all work to provide a more immersive, downtrodden future. The devs hope this will have the player more involved in the suspense and drive of the narrative. Quality of life improvements make the game more accessible to a broader audience. Hacking no longer requires in-depth knowledge of the world’s lore gained by reading documents along the way. The new mechanic in place replaces the need for this knowledge with a hacking mini-game that will ideally keep the player engaged instead of feeling stuck.
With these new additions, this will be a great opportunity for newcomers to experience Observer for the first time.
Observer: System Redux is available now for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
