Obsidian’s New IP, Halo Infinite Betas + More – Primal Newscast #12

Welcome to The Primal Newscast where Gaming Instincts goes over the hottest and most interesting news of the week that took place in the gaming industry.

Halo Infinite Will Receive Multiple Betas

343 Industries revealed earlier this week that some players will have the opportunity to try out the upcoming Halo Infinite before its scheduled holiday 2020 release date via multiple beta periods. These scheduled “opt-in flights” are expected to release first on Xbox One consoles with PC versions coming later. While 343 never mentioned how many we could be seeing – or when for that matter – it is presumed that we’ll see numerous ones, though some could be closed or private betas.

Square Enix Unsure How Many Parts FFVII Remake Will Be

Speaking with Kotaku during this year’s E3 event, Square Enix revealed some small details regarding the future schedule of the multi-part release of Final Fantasy VII Remake. While we’re expected to see the first part of the remake release next March, Square also admitted that there’s no real time line set in place for the entire project. Though this does sound a bit troubling considering how long fans have waited to even see a release date for the first part – let alone substantial gameplay footage – the development process should go a bit quicker for later parts of the game as the studio will be working on the second part while simultaneously finishing up the first. I’m sure we’ll hear more on the game once more details emerge.

New Sony Patent Suggests an End to Loading Screens

Another new patent from Sony has popped up and this one seems to point towards the possibility of foregoing traditional loading screens. The patent would allow portions of the game to load in while players are playing in a different area of the game, in turn allowing games to still load in textures and other elements in outside areas while players experience other areas of the game. There’s no guarantee we’ll see this bit of new tech in next-gen hardware, but with the new solid state hard drive in place for the new hardware, at the very least, we should we see a subtantial drp in load times all together.

Crossplay Currently Working for Call of Duty Modern Warfare

With the announcement of Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty Modern Warfare many multiplayer fans were hoping for a crossplay feature. While the developers announced recently that Modern Warfare would include crossplay, it was a little unclear whether they meant between console and PC, or between every system altogether, such a sPs4 and Xbox One. A recent tweet clarified these questions by, not only confirming crossplay between all systems, but the feature is currently working internally at the studio. Exciting news for fans looking to square up against rival console owners.

Akira Toriyama Confirms New Stories Told in Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot

With the unveiling of Bandai Namco’s upcoming action-RPG Dragon Ball title, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, it was confirmed that players will take on the role of the series’ main hero, Goku, and – once again – relive the same familiar stories that follow the legendary warrior throughout the saiyan’s many sagas. However, series creator Akira Toriyama confirmed earlier this week that the new game will include plenty of new stories never told in the manga or animated television series. Good news for Dragon Ball fans growing a bit tired of witnessing the same recycled events over and over from the iconic series. Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is expected to release in early 2020 for the PS4, Xbox One and PC.

Sony Bend Hiring Producer for “Next AAA Title”

A job listing has appeared in Linkedin from Sony first party studio, Bend Studios – developers behind the recently released Days Gone – in search of a new producer to add to the team. The job opening goes on to list a few specific qualities needed for the role, as well as mentions that their next project in the planning stages is another AAA title and being developed for the PS4. While this could mean a number of things, the most notable titles in the works could either be a Days Gone sequel or perhaps revisiting their iconic Syphon Filter series with a reboot. Stay tuned for more details if/when they emerge.

Obsidian Entertainment Hiring For Next IP

While Obsidian Entertainment is currently ironing out their upcoming title The Outer Worlds for its upcoming release later this year, it seems the studio now under the wing of Microsoft is looking to hire a Lead Narrative Designer for their next title. According to the job listing, the new game will be an RPG title with branching dialogue, as well as being multi-platform which could simply mean PC and Xbox consoles – especially considering Obsidian is now owned by Microsoft. Stay tuned for more details after the release of The Outer Worlds on October 25, 2019.
