Oddworld: Abe’s Origins, a new book and game collection that delves into the beloved games of Oddworld Inhabitants, has been met with enthusiasm by fans upon the launch of its Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign.
The project, which includes a premium hard cover book and an exclusive, physical PC release of Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee and Oddworld: Abe’s Exoddus, launched at 4pm UTC on March 20 and achieved its £45,000 funding target within its first 48 hours.
A cache of original art, concept sketches, design documents and level design notes have recently been unearthed by Oddworld co-founder Lorne Lanning after sitting untouched for years. This material, alongside new interviews that shed fresh light on the origins, themes and goals of the Oddworld franchise, is being used to create the ultimate insight into this unique gaming universe.
Lorne Lanning, CEO of Oddworld Inhabitants said of the collaboration with Indie By Design, “Oddworld: Abe’s Origins is a wonderful opportunity to give a more detailed view into the deep Oddworld story. The team at Indie By Design bring passion and quality to their work and I’m psyched that they’re going to bring a new, beautiful and richly detailed book to our fans.”
Oddworld: Abe’s Origins Game Collection features ‘big box’ PC packaging, a booklet that includes further art and design documents and a DVD case housing both games that matches the cover design of the hard cover book. As well as the Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee and Oddworld: Abe’s Exoddus PC DVD, the game collection includes digital download keys for both games.
The game collection is available exclusively through the Oddworld: Abe’s Origins crowdfunding campaign and is being put together in partnership with Limited Run Games, a specialist in physical releases of video games.
Speaking of its launch and initial progress, Stace Harman and John Robertson of Indie By Design said, “We’re proud to be working with Oddworld Inhabitants on Oddworld: Abe’s Origins, our second Kickstarter campaign. The response by fans of the Oddworld series has been extremely positive, and to get off to such a strong start is both heartening and exciting. We’re looking forward to revealing further plans for this book and game collection as the campaign unfolds.”
