Starbreeze won’t be publishing System Shock 3 anymore as System Shock 3’s developer Otherside Entertainment has bought the publishing rights from Starbreeze who acquired the rights back in 2017.
Otherside Entetainment shared this message on Twitter:
“We have very much enjoyed working with Starbreeze on System Shock 3. They’ve been a great partner. However, in light of Starbreeze’s current situation, we decided together that it would be best for us to go our separate ways for now. We wish them the best of luck.
OtherSide is rolling forward with System Shock 3. Warren Spector has built a great team and the game is more than halfway completed.
At its core, it already feels like a System Shock game, while at the same time introducing new elements to the franchise. As the original creators of the game, we want to see this game made as much as our fans do.
Look for more information about System Shock 3 soon.”
It has been a rough few weeks for the Swedish publisher. After filing for bankruptcy, the company’s Swedish offices were raided by the police over suspicion of insider trading. Former CEO Bo Andersson stepped down, leaving Nermark to assume his former role.
According to reports, Andersson’s split with Starbreeze was incredibly sour. The CEO reportedly went as far as blaming the company’s problems
As for System Shock 3, it’s been a while since we’ve heard any news. Otherside also didn’t have the best year, having released Underworld Ascendant to a tepid reception.
System Shock 3 is the latest in the series of classic, award-winning games, it’s currently in development under the direction of industry legend Warren Spector and a dream team behind such landmarks as the original System Shock, Thief: The Dark Project and Deus Ex.
