Overwatch – Switch Version Has No Cartridge

Blizzard’s Overwatch took the world by storm when it was released back in 2016. Bringing aspects of a MOBA to the First Person Shooter genre all while doing it on consoles impressed many. Fast forward to now and the award-winning Blizzard product is gearing up for release on the Nintendo Switch, tomorrow actually. Some believe this release is a little late, but fans of the Nintendo Switch platform are elated to bring the game on the go. However, just like some of the Nintendo Switch’s other third-party releases, there’s a slight problem that could deter customers looking to potentially double or even triple dip on the Blizzard title.

The Nintendo Switch is known for its portability and the number of titles it brought to the platform during its tenure. When bringing some of these games to physical release though a common problem Nintendo has had is not including a cartridge and in fact requiring the user to download the game digitally. MegaMan Legacy Collection had this issue where MegaMan 1-6 was on cartridge and users had download 7-10 digitally. Spyro Reignited Trilogy only came with the first came on the cartridge and required users to download the other two games from the trilogy digitally. Overwatch and Blizzard seem to be keeping this tradition as the plastic case for Overwatch will contain a download code, not a cartridge.

I have to admit as someone who likes having his games physical, this immediately took me out of buying the game for Nintendo Switch. The other question that has to be asked here is, is Nintendo really shipping out empty plastic boxes with a slip of paper inside it?

With this being the case with Overwatch, will you still be buying it for the Nintendo Switch? Do you think it’s fair for Nintendo to charge $40 for a digital game that’s coming up on its fourth year? Let us know and make sure to stay tuned to Gaming Instincts for more gaming news.
