It’s over 6 years since the time Payday 2 was released by Starbreeze in 2013, with no sequels of spin-offs so far. Although the game was flawed in many aspects, it did bring an exciting experience of bank robbery in video games. Fortunately, in a recent financial note by Starbreeze, it has revealed that Payday 3 has been planned to get published in 2022 or later, which will probably target next-gen consoles as its home platforms.
After Overkill’s The Walking Dead failed badly in terms of sales, Starbreeze stopped selling the game and was almost at the edge of getting bankrupt a few months ago, but anyway, it managed to survive and now has been divided into two groups: New Starbreeze Publishing AB and New Starbreeze Studios AB.
Although the company has confirmed working on a sequel to the Payday series, it hasn’t revealed any specific information on Payday 3. With the series’ extreme focus on mission-based robberies from banks, jewelry stores, and other locations, it doesn’t seem to have any story-based experience in the new entry. However, the online part could get expanded more by adding new modes and features, such as a competitive PvP mode.
With Overkill’s The Walking Dead reaching a dead-end in development, it seems Overkill Software has no other project than Payday 3 to work on. So, we would hopefully get the game in 2022.
Payday 2 is now available on Steam for $9.99 while its full bundle will cost you almost $20. The game is also supporting VR headsets, which brings a whole new exciting experience of robbery in Payday 2. It’s also available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.
