Earlier today we reported on the 25th anniversary of the Persona, in which Atlus put up a listing for seven future projects, bookended by an announcement for or to be revealed this September, and another project coming in Autumn of next year. While neither of them gave any indication as to what they might be, it was fair, I feel, to hope that the last project listed might be Persona 6.
Well, not wasting any time, the company has put out a job listing that they have confirmed is for the next Mainline entry in the Persona series. The job listing, which was posted to Atlus Japan, and includes interviews with employees to help provide a feel for the culture, working at Atlus.
Atlus director Naoto Hiraoka spoke about the upcoming project, illustrating that the scope of Persona 6 is by no means small, and is instead a far larger endeavor than even Persona 5 was. This is made obvious by the need to hire additional staff.
Hiraoka stated:
“Thanks to a large amount of support we received for Persona 5, we have gotten a sense of accomplishment. But we can’t stop there. When we created Persona 4, there was the pressure that it had to exceed Persona 3. Now, we will have to create a 6 which exceeds 5. However, exceeding 5 will be difficult with the current staff. I would like to surpass this tall hurdle with everyone who joins us in this recruitment. The workplace is perfect for those who want a creative challenge when it comes to bringing games to the world.”
Unfortunately, we have no time frame for Persona 6. While it LOOKED like the listing for next year might have been the next game, and I stated above that I hoped it might be, this sounds like the game might still be a way out. Atlus could be aiming for that 2022 timeframe to announce it. We will have to wait to learn more.
