Video game industry is an ever-growing field that will never stop in a certain point as long as there are people out there who help the evolution of technology. With the growth of the industry through the years, we see more competitors appearing to claim the crown, but Phil Spencer, Head of Xbox, says this way of thinking has been expired.
Speaking to Fortune, Phil Spencer went over different topics, including Microsoft’s long-lasting competition with Sony in video game industry, while none of them have been totally knocked out up until today. When Spencer was asked that whether the competition with Sony affects Microsoft’s decisions and approaches, he said:
I would say the most competitive side of it- no. I’m always listening to the community, but the people who want to see others fail in order for the green team to succeed- that’s not me. There were people, when the Sony deal was announced, I could see it online, ‘what are you doing helping them out?
And it’s like, we’ve had years and years of a relationship with Sony. Sony shipped PCs and they had Windows on it, they use our development tools to bring games. This idea that the only way for any of us to succeed is by pulling down someone else just isn’t the way that the industry works today. It just isn’t.
To be honest, Spencer’s vision on the topic is admirable and if the Xbox team is really following such a policy right now, it will bring success to Microsoft. Spencer’s vision will definitely help the industry to grow, while making the Green team to progress more and more. Microsoft’s latest deal with Sony on expanding the cloud gaming and streaming services was a great example of Spencer’s influence on the company’s policy.
