Pimax’s 5K Super Announced at CES

Pimax, a Kickstarter success has just revealed at CES 2020 their newest entry in their line up of VR Headsets, the “5K SUPER”. This VR device is capable to deliver a max refresh rate of 180 HZ, making it the highest refresh rate for a device of this kind on the market.

Pimax is a China-based company, it’s dedicated to offer different options of VR headsets for PC, their are best known for a Kickstarter campaign for a 8K VR Headset. Originally planned to start its development at $200.000, Kickstarter users loved the idea and 5,946 backers pledged $4,236,618 to help bring this project to life.

The 5K Super is based on the 5K Plus, a device that has done fairly well on the market, featuring a field of view of 170 degrees and dual 1440p LCD display.

Valve’s Index and Oculus Rift are the main competitors of this device, Pimax appeals to enthusiast by offering more refresh rate and higher resolutions.

The Pimax 5k SUPER Headset is expected to support all of the thousands of games available on both Steam and Oculus Home. Users can also use the device for watching movies and internet video. In addition, the Pimax 5K SUPER is also compatible with other brand Steam Controllers and both the Steam VR Lighthouse 1.0 and 2.0 tracking technology with up to 7m X 7m (22’11 X 22’11) room-scale stage.

Pimax is a technology company specializing in virtual reality hardware and software products. They’re known for launching the first commercially available 4K headset, the Pimax 4K virtual reality headset, In 2017, they ran a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter for the Pimax 8K headset, raising approximately $4.2 million.

On the 19th of December 2017, Pimax announced they had closed a $15 million  funding. In May 2018, Pimax launched knuckle style controller compatible with SteamVR 2.0.
