It was announced by Dutch game development company Twirlbound, that they launched their 32-day Kickstarter campaign for Pine, an action adventure game that adapts to players through advanced AI and an intricate game ecology. The game, inspired by the adventurous Zelda-series combined with the dynamic choice-based progression of the Fable-series, has been topping the Kickstarter charts since. With over 1,100 backers on board, Pine seems off to a good start.
Check out the Kickstarter pitch video of Pine, showcasing the games’ features and some gameplay footage:
“In the game, players are thrown onto the medium-sized island of Albamare, an open and continuous game world. Instead of static AI behavior, its systems observe and adapt to an individual player by recognizing their style. Aggressive players will be met by more defensive creatures, while sneaky players are countered by more alert ecology of species.
In the world of Pine, Humans never reached the top of the food chain. Players take on the role of Hue, a shy but smart young adult who has to step into the Out as his village is decaying and extinction is apparent.
Species you meet on this journey are always on the move. They can fight one another, regardless of involvement of the player, and their need of food and shelter is reflected in small or big migrations, causing the player to stumble upon situations dictated the ecological rules. As the player makes their way to a new home, they must choose their enemies and allies wisely by humbly observing everything around them.
The title is in development for Windows, Mac and Linux, with console versions in its future vision: the prosperity of the campaign dictates the studio’s options to port and publish the game on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Switch.
Backers can expect rewards in the form of digital copies of the game and soundtrack, t-shirts, digital and hardcover versions of a unique ‘Behind the Art & Technology’ book, 3D-printed statues and more. Highest-tier backers can have the opportunity to have a statue and sidequest designed around their likeness on the island, and the already reserved ‘Charles Darwin’ tier allows a backer to design a species with the team.”
