PlayStation 5 DS5 Will Feature a Vibration Control Module

According to the latest patent from Sony the PlayStation 5’s DualShock 5 will allow players or developers to increase or decrease the force on the vibration of the controller. The patent reveals that a “Vibration Control Apparatus” would communicate to the “Vibration Control Section” and would allow to adjust the force of vibration levels for each game.

A method of controlling a vibration device according to the present invention, includes: a step of receving a vibration instructon; and a vibration control step of vibrating the vibration device in accordance with content obtained by correcting the content of the received vibration instructions, in which the vibration control step, the correction content is determined in accordance with a user using the vibration device.

Sony’s CEO Jim Ryan, has often stated how the PlayStation 5 features will separate the PS5 from the PS4 and it’s competitor

“3D audio and the haptic feedback support of the controller are also things that, when you try them, you will be surprised at how big a change they are. Even just playing the racing game Gran Turismo Sport with a PlayStation 5 controller is a completely different experience. While it runs well with the previous controller, there is no going back after you experience the detailed road surface via haptic control and play using the adaptive triggers.”

Surely haptic feedback is one of the preferred subjects by Jim Ryan when he talks about the PlayStation 5, controllers didn’t received a massive overhaul last generation, and technology is now allowing Sony to offer players a better experience.

Haptics Feedbac2 and Adaptive triggers, will change the way players experience a game, as different kind of terrains and more information can be transferred directly on the hands of the player. This is a big selling points to developers, who always try unique ways to stand out similar games. Games like Gran Turismo Sports can use this feature to let players know when a tire is loosing grip, when the aerodynamics of a car is damaged, just to give an example.
