According to Brazilian technological news website Technoblog, the PlayStation 5 will feature WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1 connectivity, the information comes via a certification of Brazil’s Anatel (National Telecommunications Agency) and an official Sony’s spec sheet.
The report from Technoblog explains that Anatel, homologated PlayStation 5’s J20h100, the connectivity chip manufactured by Foxconn that will allow the next-gen console with the support of Bluetooth 5.1 y Wi-Fi 6.
PlayStation 5 will improve on some of the areas that were lacking on the PS4, Wi-Fi 6, also known as 802.11ax, or “AX WiFi” is the next-generation standard in WiFi technology. The technology was built in response to the needs of new devices such as VR headsets. The maximum theoretical speed is 9.6 Gb/ s.
The PlayStation 5 will also benefit from Bluetooth 5.1, the new technology will allow the next-gen console to pinpoint the exact location of a device within an accuracy of centimeters.
Bluetooth Core Specification v5.1 gives the Bluetooth Low Energy (LE) controller in the receiving device the ability to generate data that can then be used to calculate the directional angle to the transmitting device.
The addition of direction finding in this release of the Bluetooth Core Specification is the first of several steps in the Bluetooth roadmap that will ultimately enable key enhancements to Bluetooth location services. When the associated profiles have been released, Bluetooth developers will be able to exploit the new direction finding controller capability to create high accuracy, interoperable positioning systems such as real-time locating systems (RTLS) and indoor positioning systems (IPS)
