PlayStation 5 Has Been Unveiled at ‘The Future of Gaming’

Sony has just revealed the revolutionary design of the PlayStation 5, the gorgeous console looks futuristic and shares the dual-tone white and black design of its controller, blue accents are accomplished with LEDs. The big surprise of the reveal was the announcement of a presumably cheaper version of the PlayStation 5, the Digital Edition, a slimmer design without the Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive.

Check the PlayStation 5 reveal trailer here:

At launch, we will offer two options: a PlayStation®5 console with an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive and a PlayStation®5 Digital Edition without a disc drive. The PS5 gameplay experience will be the same, so the choice is all yours. While there are some slight differences in the look of each model, for the overall design, we wanted to deliver a console that’s bold, stunning, and unlike any previous generation of PlayStation.

Sony did not go in depth about the design of the PlayStation, a short three minute video did all the talking, and while there is not much that reveals the functioning of the console, there are some standing points that are clarified in a subtle way.

The console apparently has a USB-Type A and USB-Type C on the front, below are two buttons, one for power and the other for disc ejection. The cooling vents look large,  somewhat dissimulated by the design of the console and, at the same time, accented by the blue LED, only a portion of the cooling vents are showing, something that is very different from the approach by Microsoft with the Xbox Series X design.

The console will also launch with several gadgets that will make the experience of the next gen console even better, a DualSense Charging Station has been announced, the device will allow users to charge up to two controllers at ease. Sony did also showcased the HD Camera and a new Pulse 3D Wireless Headset. A new Media Remote has also been revealed confirming that PlayStation 5 is much more than just a gaming console.

“With PlayStation 5, we are making a significant leap to deliver a truly new generation of transformative play experiences that will redefine expectations for what games can be,” said Jim Ryan, President and CEO of SIE. “Worlds will be richer and more beautiful, they’ll captivate your senses in ways you didn’t think possible, and you’ll be able to experience them much more seamlessly, with lightning fast loading. Today’s showcase is just a glimpse of what’s to come in the next generation, and we want to thank our community for taking this journey to PS5’s launch with us.”
