Right now, we are standing on the edge of the next generation of consoles and the amount of rumors that we get everyday are big enough that we cannot figure out which one is fake. However, amongst all these leaks and unofficial details, it’s good to hear new information from reliable sources that you can trust on them, and when it comes to next-gen platforms, the developers who have access to the new hardware are best ones to speak with them about the power that’s lied behind the hood of these consoles.
Toshihiro Nagoshi, the director behind Yakuza series, is one of the lucky developers who has tasted the power of the next generation earlier. The director says PS5 has made a return to programmable era once again, in which machine learning and AI will keep evolving. Nagoshi believes that PlayStation 5 owns the most powerful graphics that they’ve seen so far and it’s going to be a question for every developer to decide where to use this power in the process of developing games. He says:
Even after PlayStation 5 is released, I think PlayStation 4 is going to be the main focus for a while longer.
The processing power of PlayStation 5 is incredible, so when we try to think of new gameplay that will utilize its full potential, I’m not really sure which aspects of existing mechanics we should translate.
First there was a time when graphics improved, then there was network features, and now I guess you can say its a return to the “programmable” era? I think artificial intelligence and machine learning will continue to evolve.
If you would pour its power into graphics it’ll be the best that we’ve yet to see, and I think everyone is thinking about in what way we should use that power. I as well. There’s artificial intelligence and many other things I want to think about.
Previously, it’s been announced that PS5 will utilize AMD Navi graphics along with SSD that allows it to increase the console’s performance in running the games several times better than PS4.
