PlayStation 5 – Potentially Slated For December 2020

The next-generation console race is in full swing with Microsoft announcing Project Scarlett back at E3 and Sony announcing the PS5 a few weeks ago. The upcoming console generation is going to be unique, to say the least. Both Microsoft and Sony seem to be keeping things close to the hip, we have rumors of launch titles and specs but it’s all behind the curtains for now. The release window for both systems is Holiday Season 2020. However, according to a report from Tweaktown, we can expect to see the PlayStation 5 in December 2020.

It doesn’t sound like there’s an exact date just yet though. In my humble opinion, early December might be a tad late. You would think Sony would want to get the PlayStation 5 out in October or at least attempt to have the console out by Black Friday. Not the case according to Tweaktown, December might not be that bad, obviously, they want to get the console under Christmas trees this year. This information is solid and appreciated but there are so many other questions that need to be answered. How much will the system cost? Some rumors are stating the base price will be $500. The other question, what about launch day games? We know Bluepoint is working on a big game currently, many believe that Horizon 2 is in the works as well, but Sony will need more titles, like maybe a God of War to really pique the attention of users.

Those are the two big concerns, perhaps maybe on the smaller side though is what type of backwards compatibility will we see with the PlayStation 5 this generation? If we could get PS4, PS3 & PS2 backwards compatibility that would be prime, though I’m worried that would hurt Sony’s bottom line. If you had to pick today, what console would you be going home with?
