New information about the heavily rumored PlayStation 5 pro model has seemingly been leaked by prominent leaker billbil-kun. The leaker recently took to Twitter to reveal several details about the upcoming console. According to their report, the console’s official name is PlayStation 5 Pro as expected. It will have “the same white color” consistent with previous models, will be larger than the slim and will have three “black stripes” on the panels this time. Additionally, the console will reportedly not have a disc drive, at least according to the leaker’s design image, but will have the same DualSense controllers the standard PlayStation 5 has. Lastly, the report also reveals that the console will be announced “very soon” possibly in “the first half of September”.
In a recent Wccftech report, an unspecified developer told the outlet that they had received the specs for the upcoming and highly rumored PlayStation 5 Pro. According to the developer, the console will be able to run Unreal Engine 5 developed games much better and faster than the base PlayStation 5. The report states that because of this, “it is reasonable to assume an official announcement is near.” According to several rumors over the year the console will launch sometime at the end of the year. Developer documentation by Digital Foundry which cites its own sources claims that the PlayStation 5 Pro PlayStation Spectral Resolution (PSSR) tech is capable of upscaling 1080p visuals to 4K. This technology will also reportedly be backwards compatible with existing PlayStation 5 games.
Earlier in July 2023, legal documents from the Microsoft FTC court case revealed that Sony will release a PlayStation 5 Slim and a PlayStation 5 Pro console “in the near future.” The PlayStation 5 Slim console was released in 2023.
