Yesterday, at the Future of Gaming, Sony revealed the PlayStation 5 and more than two dozens of games for the system, big announcements like the new Spider-Man, Horizon Zero Dawn: Forbidden West, Gran Turismo 7, Demon’s Souls, and Village: Resident Evil took all the attention. However, PlayStation 5 seems ready to bring a new mascot, the cute robot that we all seen in the Astro’s Playroom trailer.
All PlayStation 5 consoles will have Astro’s Playroom pre-installed, Astro’s new adventure will introduce players to the new features of the DualSense controller.
Check the announcement trailer down below:
“Astro and his crew lead you on a magical introduction through PS5 in this fun platformer that comes pre-loaded on PS5,” reads an official pitch of the game. “Explore four worlds, each based on PS5’s console components. Each area showcases innovative gameplay that taps into the new features of the PS5’s DualSense wireless controller.”
Interestingly, back in April Gaming Instincts reported that Sony had filed a patent for a new robot companion for the PlayStation 5, the robot will have a “feeling deduction unit” capable of detecting and reacting to the owner’s emotions,” joy, anger, love and surprise” this would be accomplished by a biological sensor capable of tracking the player’s heart rate and sweat.
The patent reveals that the fuzzy robot don’t have a mouth but can move it’s head and feet in reaction to the player’s emotions. Similar to R.O.B. from Nintendo, the Sony’s robot will be able to play games with the player. An example was given by in the patent, the robot could control the “opponent team of a baseball game being played by the user.”
The technology behind a robot like the one explained in the patent wouldn’t come cheap, but certainly, it would find it’s market, specially in the current state of the world.
