PlayStation Has Been Affected By More Layoffs

According to a recent report from Kotaku, PlayStation studios have been impacted by layoffs. These layoffs were reportedly as a result of several live service games being cancelled. Ex project manager at PlayStation Visual Arts Abby LeMaster recently announced on LinkedIn that the studio has been affected by the layoffs. “It was tough waking up to messages that many friends and former coworkers from PSVA were laid off this morning,” wrote LeMaster. “The layoffs today hit hard. PSVA let go of developers with decades of subject matter expertise, talent that will be extraordinarily difficult to recoup. This industry can be unpredictable, but the skill, experience, and passion of the people I worked with at PSVA are undeniable. PlayStation has notably cancelled several games including Last of Us Online, and the Bend Studios live service game.

The Bluepoint title was a live service game based on God of War which has been in development since the studio helped God of War Ragnarok back in 2022.

A company spokesperson confirmed the cancellations in a statement last month, claiming the two games were canceled “following a recent review” and that PlayStation will continue making both online and single-player games. Neither studio will be closed, but information on layoffs were not disclosed. However, the company says it is “working closely with Bend and Bluepoint to determine what are the next projects and plan to do everything we can to ensure there is minimal business impact.” “Bend and Bluepoint are highly accomplished teams who are valued members of the PlayStation Studios family, and we are working closely with each studio to determine what are the next projects,” they said.
