A Major update for the PlayStation 5 is planned for release at some point later this year. While the company is being tight-lipped as to what exactly will be added with their next update, they are looking for people to test out the features.
Sony has currently opened a signup feature. This is the first time that the company has offered this feature for a PlayStation 5 system update. As stated on the official PlayStation Blog “By signing up, you could be among the first to put new features to the test and provide essential feedback that will help guide their development.”
The blog post outlines what will happen if you get selected, Stating:
If you’re selected to be part of the program, you’ll receive an email with instructions on how to download the beta version of the next system software. In order to sign up, you’ll need a PS5 console with an internet connection and a PlayStation Network account. You will also be added to the potential participant pool for future PS5 system software betas automatically without having to register again. After the beta begins, you can restore your system software to the latest official release version before the beta program ends.
Unfortunately, one stipulation listed is you must be from the US, Canada, UK, Japan, Germany, or France to take part in the beta testing. The previous large update to the system added USB extended storage, cross-generation Share Play, an improved Game Base. Since this update is looking for testers it is most likely that the update will be consumer-facing with features for the average PlayStation user.
If you are from those regions would like to take part in the beta, you can click here to sign up.
