Pokemon Diamond/Pearl Remakes Top 13 Million Sales

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Pokemon Shining Pearl

have hit a major milestone, passing 13.97 million units sold since the games were released on November 19th, 2021. This makes the titles collectively the ninth bestselling switch title of all time, joining other Pokemon titles Let’s Go PikachuLet’s Go EeveeSword, and Shield on the Nintendo top-selling chart.

Nintendo has reported an uptick in software sales to the tune of 1.8 percent across the last nine months, stating that both new and cataloged titles continue to play a part in the companies sales growth. For instance, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe continues to be a driving force for the system a little under five years since it was first released, moving 7.96 million units during the current fiscal year. Animal Crossing: New Horizons, closing in on its third anniversary, also continues to sell extremely well with it moving 4.99 million units.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe continues to be the top-selling game on the system with a lifetime amount of 43.35 million units to date, with Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Super Smash Bros Ultimate trailing close behind at 37.62 million and 27.4 million respectively. Other games like Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild and Pokemon Sword/Shield are also on the list of best sellers for the console.

Unlike previous Pokemon games, however, the Diamond and Pearl remakes were followed closely behind by Pokemon Legends Arceus, released this month, which despite being a spin-off is the first real attempt by the franchise to deliver an open-world type of taking on the Pokemon formula. It has received positive reviews from fans and critics alike. It will be interesting to see if Arceus halt sales on Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Pokemon Shining Pearl or perhaps can make it on this list in its own right.

In other news concerning Nintendo, in an investors meeting, it was stated that Nintendo has no desire to begin making big acquisitions like Sony and Microsoft. Instead, last year they set aside 100 billion Yen with the intention of bolstering their first-party content.
