Pokémon Go now available on Apple Watch
It was announced today by Niantic that Pokémon Go is out now available for the Apple Watch. The watchOS version of Pokémon Go is downloadable from iTunes.
A key element lacking from the Pokémon Go Apple Watch app, however, is catching Pokémon. Players will still need to pull out their iPhones in order to capture a nearby monster, as the Apple Watch app only notifies players when a Pokémon is in the area.
Here’s some of the official PR:
“Apple Watch is particularly well suited to Pokémon GO as it seamlessly combines gameplay and imagination with getting exercise and exploring the real world. You can easily interact with Pokémon GO on Apple Watch, using quick taps to discover nearby Pokémon and collect items from PokéStops. Once you encounter a Pokémon, you can catch it from your iPhone. You can log your play sessions through the Apple Watch app as a Workout that will count toward your personal Activity rings, while also counting distance toward hatching Pokémon Eggs.”
The game is scaled back to better fit the watch’s interface, but there are still several main features that players can access. The new smartwatch app lets you more easily play Pokémon without having to always pull out your phone. Instead, you can tap to find nearby Pokémon, collect items from PokéStops, and even log your gameplay as a “workout.”
