Empoleon, the armored emperor penguin is finally coming to battle. Announced by the official Pokken Twitter account today, Empoleon is on their way to Pokkén Tournament Arcade, acting as the last of the currently known DLC characters for this Pokémon themed fighter.
Previously discovered through fans datamining the Wii U version of Pokkén, they discovered initially what they thought was three new fighters; Scizor, Darkrai and Empoleon. In actual fact, it was four fighters, with Croagunk getting upgraded from assist to fully playable character earlier in November, causing many to panic that the Steel and Water starter Pokemon from Sinnoh was not actually going to make it.
Fans can now rest easy, as Empoleon will be joining the arcade roster on the 15th of December. It is not known at this time if these DLC fighters will make it to the Wii U version of Pokkén, but seeing as the Nintendo Switch is on the way, it is likely that Pokkén will get an updated rerelease with all the new characters included while the Wii U version is updated via DLC.
Check out the Trailer:
“Some of Empoleon’s moves in Pokken Tournament are Drill Peck, which allows the Pokémon to zip across the field, and the use of an ice attack that can either slip up opponents or allow Empoleon to cut the distance between fighters faster. Empoleon can also stun opponents with an overhead slash of its wings and even trap enemies in a rock.
The Water-type Empoleon becomes the fourth character to join Pokken Tournament after the initial release along with Darkrai, Scizor and Croagunk. Empoleon was found in the coding of the Wii U version of Pokken Tournament alongside Darkrai and Scizor, so the Water types inclusion in the fighting game was inevitable.”
