According to French journalist Gautoz via ResetEra, Ubisoft has disbanded Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown development team at Montpellier studio. This is reportedly due to the Metroidvania not meeting the publisher’s sales expectations. The game reportedly only attracted 300,000 players in its first few weeks of its launch. According to Push Square, a Ubisoft representative confirmed to us that there have been “no layoffs” at the studio in relation to this game. Additionally, a sequel for the title was reportedly rejected by the publisher. Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is available now for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC via Epic Games Store and Ubisoft Store, and Luna. Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown Story DLC ‘Mask of Darkness’ launched last month.

“I’m extremely proud of our team’s work and passion at Ubisoft Montpellier to create a game that resonated with players and critics alike, and I am confident in its long-term success. Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is now at the end of its Post-Launch roadmap with three free content updates and one DLC that released in September. We are now focusing on making the game available to more players: it was recently launched on Steam, and will be available on Mac by this winter. Most of the team members who worked on Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown have shifted to other projects that will benefit from their expertise.
