During Sony’s financial report for the end of the fiscal year, the company announced that their total shipments sold for the PlayStation 4 has reached a whopping 96.8 million units. That’s quite impressive considering the console is now over five years old and competing against other industry leaders: Microsoft and Nintendo.
It’s also been stated that Sony fully expects to blow passed the 100 million mark by the end of this coming fiscal year – more than likely by the end of 2019 in general. The PlayStation brand is expected to sell near 16 million more PS4s during this coming fiscal year of 2019.
On top of the monumental sales figures for the PS4 console line, their online subscription model PS Plus has reached 36.4 million users. That number is up from last year’s total by over 2 million users which, again, is quite impressive considering how far within the life cycle we are.
Also interesting, is that along with the PlayStation software sales surpassing 54 million units, the digital distribution numbers are also up from 43% to 45%. That’s almost half of all PS4 software sales coming from the digital storefront.
In other news, Sony has also recently stated that they have no plans of releasing their next gen console before this current fiscal year is up – April 2020.
