Welcome to The Primal Newscast where Gaming Instincts goes over the hottest and most interesting news of the week that took place in the gaming industry.
System Shock 2 Enhanced Edition Announced
After the return of System Shock back in 2015 with the remastered release, and the subsequent follow up with a System Shock Remake, Nightdive Studios has announced the Enhanced Edition of its sequel, System Shock 2. The developers made the announcement via Twitter earlier this week, though no in-depth details have been released, i.e. release date or platforms. OtherSide Entertainment is also working on a true sequel to the series with System Shock 3, so fans of the series have plenty to be excited about.
Qauntic Dream Officially Multiplatform
After Quantic Dream broke the news that they would no longer be under contract with Sony Interactive Entertainment leading to the studio forming a partnership with NetEase, the studio’s founder David Cage has made it clear that future titles from the company will no longer be exclusive to Sony platforms. Cage notes that Quantic Dream is eager to proceed into bigger audiences and after 12 years of PlayStation exclusivity – it’s time to expand. The studio is already making these moves with earlier reveals confirming that Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls and Detroit: Become Human are all making their way over to the PC.
Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville Trailer Leaked
While early on in the week we received a leak for a European trademark for what appeared to be EA’s third installment in the Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare series, a new leak has surfaced that confirmed the trademark. A new announcement trailer surfaced all around the internet which confirms that the next Plants vs. Zombies title is indeed Battle for Neighborville. While nothing has been confirmed by EA as of yet, all fingers are now pointing towards an inevitable reveal, most likely during Gamescom next week.
EA finally revealed their upcoming Need for Speed title earlier this week with an announcement trailer for Need for Speed Heat. The new title looks like a return to the wild street racing scene with an emphasis on outrunning the police and deep customization options. Need for Speed Heat is set to release on November 8, 2019 for the PS4, Xbox One and PC.
Rumor: Last of Us Part II Release Date
Yet another rumor regarding Naughty Dog’s Last of Us Part II release date has surfaced this time claiming that the next Sony State of Play episode will announce the official date. While we haven’t received a date for a new episode in Sony’s new video series, the rumor states that a new episode will air on November 1, 2019. Considering the large gap between the most recent episode back in May and the next one supposedly in November, the new episode will be slightly longer than others and will include a release date for Last of Us Part II – which is rumored for May 2020. Take these rumors with a massive grain of salt, however, as these sources are not very reliable.
Rumor: PlayStation 5 Reveal in February 2020
Another rumor surrounding Sony has surfaced that the next-gen PlayStation console, presumably called the PlayStation 5, will be revealed during the PlayStation Meeting 2020. The rumor suggests that the event will take place on February 12, 2020 and will provide a glimpse into the future of the PlayStation brand, including an official reveal of the PS5, a look at upcoming games like Ghost of Tsushima and possibly what other first-party studios are working on, such as Guerrilla Games and Naughty Dog’s secondary developer team. While this is an exciting rumor, it is a rumor nonetheless, so take this with extreme caution for now.
Rumor: Bully 2 Screenshot Leak
A new leak has surfaced which suggests a screenshot for the unannounced, yet highly rumored Bully 2 title. The leak is a screenshot of what appears to be an in-game map for the game and seems to feature all of the necessary components for what the sequel could look like. Most striking in the image is the Online and Social Club tabs for the game which, if accurate, would mean that Bully 2 will feature an online component similar to GTA V and Red Dead Redemption II. Of course, this is coming from a relatively unreliable source and the game has yet to even be confirmed to be in existence, so take this very lightly. Stay tuned for more, as it’s been rumored that Bully 2 will release next year, so an announcement should be on the horizon if true.
Rumor: Final Fantasy VII Remake Could Be Headed to Xbox One
It seems a new poster located in Japan has been spotted for the upcoming Final Fantasy VII Remake which features an Xbox One logo potentially signaling that the game may be releasing on the Microsoft console. Previously, the game has been noted as being a PS4 exclusive, but there have been several rumors stating otherwise. The game is also expected to be a multi-part release which could take several years of development, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see the entire saga release on next-gen consoles. However, so far nothing has been officially confirmed to release on the Xbox brand.
Rumor: SNES Games Might Be Arriving to the Switch Online Service
A new FCC filing from Nintendo reveals what appears to be a SNES controller design for the Switch. If true, this could potentially mean Nintendo is planning to release a SNES style Joy-Con controller similar to the NES Joy-Cons released last year alongside the official launch of the Switch Online service. The release of SNES style Joy-Cons would mean that the Switch would more than likely start receiving SNES games in the subscription services library which would add a bit more value to the subscription service. Nothing has been officially confirmed by Nintendo, however, so take this new finding lightly until then.
