PlayStation France might have leaked one of the biggest feature of the PS5 controller. The information came from the comparison page of the current PS4 gen consoles. A revealing ‘DS5’ was evident on the listing for compatible controllers.
CEO Jim Ryan hasn’t missed an opportunity to praise the work done in creating a new controller that is a “great evolution as a gaming experience”.
“I actually tried it myself,” said Ryan, “in a test version of Gran Turismo Sport. I was very surprised by the gameplay feel that was very different compared to the current DualShock 4.”
But Ryan refers on how haptic feedback will be a game changer, he actually tries to avoid revealing major design specifications. The most accurate source of information for the DS5 is the actual patent design.
The patent for the next-gen DualShock 5 reveals two additional buttons on the back compared to the DS4. Adding fuel to cross-gen functionality, PlayStation has introduced a back button attachment for the DualShock 4.
Reports from Respawn First, also suggest that PS5 will be backwards compatible with the DualShock 4 and VR controllers. Respawn First neglects to divulge the source of this report, but claims that two developers have leaked this information to them.
Reports also suggest that “most PlayStation 5 games will support hardware backward compatibility”.
“Not allowing the use of DS4 with PlayStation 5 would mean users must invest toward new controllers for the console, and that most likely won’t sit well with the community and makes very little sense. Moreover, Microsoft is doing the same with Xbox Series X, allowing old-gen controllers to work with the new console”
PlayStation France has since either fixed their listing, or this is the work of some person trying to start a rumor. Either way, take this information with a large dose of salt.
