Devs Claims PS5 is Superior to Xbox Series X says Jason Schreier

News editor at Kotaku and co-host of Splitscreen, Jason Schreier affirms that he got reports from developers who are pretty confident that Sony PlayStation 5 is superior to its American counterpart Xbox Series X. The report was given via Kotaku’s Splitscreen, a podcast in which Schreier and some colleagues discussed about Mark Cerny’s technical talk about the PS5’s hardware.

Jason Schreier is a reliable source of information, and it is really interesting to learn that some developers are backing the PS5, a console built to be developer friendly. Xbox is clearly the most powerful console for the next generation, but that doesn’t means that it will be the most capable, PS5’s NVMe SSD was tailored to the needs of the developers, and according to Mark Cerny, the Lead System Architect of the PS5’s SSD is a game changer, it will change the way games will be developed, Cerny also warned that TFLOPs doesn’t tell the whole story.

Everybody is now seeing this spec sheet and they see PS5 10.2 TFLOPs and Xbox Series X 12 TFLOPs, but meanwhile, the people that I’ve been talking to over the past few months, over the past couple of years, who are actually working on the PlayStation 5, have pretty much unanimously all said ‘This thing is a beast, it is one of those the coolest pieces of hardware that we’ve ever seen or used before, There are so many things here that are revolutionary’.

The general consensus is that these things are both extremely powerful and both very similar in a lot of ways, both do different things in really cool ways. These are both extremely impressive pieces of technology.

What I’m hearing from the people who are actually working on these things, working on the metal, is that the Xbox Series X is not significantly more powerful than the PS5 despite this teraflops number.
