During Microsoft’s conference at this year’s E3, Double Fine officially announced that it has joined Xbox Game Studios and will continue its career under the wing of the Redmondians. The studio has been developing Psychonauts 2 for a long time and while it was supposed to get released till the end of this year, today Double Fine revealed that the game will be coming in 2020.
While with Double Fine’s acquisition by Microsoft we expected to finally get our hands on Psychonauts 2 this year, the game delayed once again to hit PC and consoles in 2020. Announced with an official statement by Double Fine, the team has decided to launch the upcoming project next year in order to make it look better than before and deliver a sequel in the same level as the first entry of the series. Here is the full statement:
There really shouldn’t be too many other noticeable changes for you at all, at least not for a while…with one notable exception: We’re now targeting next year for release. We know it’s always disappointing when you have to wait a bit longer, but we also know that you are an amazing, supportive bunch, who – just like us – want the game to be as good as possible. So we’re hopeful you’ll understand!
Psychonauts 2 is a 3D platformer with an engaging story. If the sequel manages to bring a success as big as the first installment, Psychonauts 2 could be named as one of the greatest games of current generation.
