In recent years, of all the franchises that helped put Id Software on the map, the one getting the least amount of love is Quake. While a multiplier game entitled Quake Champions was released, many players want the franchise to return in a larger way. Well according to rumors, the next big Id game could be a new entry in the franchise.

@Shpeshal_Nick, the co-founder of XboxEra, discussed the topic on his podcast and indeed suggesting it is real. Like with all rumors, take this with a grain of salt. However, Nick has had a pretty solid track record with rumors of this nature in the past.
The game is being developed by Id software with some help from Machinegames. Over the past month or two, we have seen Id slowly wind down Doom Eternal so it stands to reason that they have moved on to a new project. What help Machinegames is offering is not known but it makes sense they could offer help, being the team that rebooted Id’s Wolfenstein franchise.
As for the game itself, it will have both a single-player campaign as well as multiplayer. The biggest suggestion made about the story is that the player will control a female protagonist. This is not the first time Id has toyed with the idea, even suggesting a female doom slayer for Doom Eternal. While the doom slayer is a bit more iconic, making it had to switch, the Rangers of Quake are less identifiable.
The Quakecon event is set to occur this August and will be an all-digital event. While there is no confirmation on if a major event like a new Quake will be shown, that is the most likely place to hear about it at this point.
