As a second-party studio for Sony, Quantic Dream has had a long history of making PlayStation exclusive games since the release of Heavy Rain in 2010, the game that broke its exclusivity a few days ago with official launch on Epic Games Store for PC. However, David Cage says working on exclusive titles in Quantic Dream is no longer an ongoing policy.
According to an interview with head of Quantic Dream, David Cage, the director attempts to begin developing new titles for different platforms, including Xbox, after almost 23 years of creating games under the wing of Sony. Cage believes that the studio is able to develop and publish games on its own, as it’s doing it now with Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls and Detroit: Become Human coming out on EGS.
Thanks to the investment of NetEase on Quantic Dream earlier this year, now the studio is able to handle more than one project at the same time, which probably means we’re going to see more games coming out from the French studio in a shorter period of time, compared to how they used to develop games before. Cage also mentioned that the studio is considering the potential of Asian market and mobile platforms as well, which might lead to the cultivation of mobile games from a studio that’s well known for its AAA narrative-driven games.
For Cage and his team at Quantic Dream, leaving Sony is the start of a new journey with lots of new challenges for them.
