Bethesda’s first anticipated title after Fallout 76 in 2019 finally got released and the media’s reception for the game wasn’t something we expected from id Software and Bethesda so far. Getting the Metascore of 73, the game lacks in presenting a long-lasting story and meaningful characters, as reviewers have claimed, however it seems the developer enjoys what it has delivered for players, as the director at id Software talks about his intention to work on Rage 3 as soon as they get permission from IP owner.
Speaking to Hollywood Reporter, director at id Software Tim Willits indicated that the world of Rage franchise has enough potential to get further sequels and the studio is ready to develop the third installment of the series even as of tomorrow. He said:
I hope so. Yes, is the answer to that question. We’ve always loved this franchise because it’s such a fun setting. We can do what we want. We were once talking about riding on giant cockroaches. What other game can you have a conversation where that’s a legitimate conversation you can have?! It’s a crazy, fun, exciting franchise and I hope we can make a third one as soon as possible.
While the review scores for Rage 2 don’t increase the series’ chance to get the next entry in the near future, it mostly depends on sales and the game’s financial performance. Regarding lack of AAA titles launching until July, it seems Rage 2 owns a great period to sell as much as it can. Anyway, if Bethesda’s vision on Rage 2 is same as that of Tim Willits, fans won’t be awaiting another 8 years to see Rage 3 coming out.
Rage 2 is currently available on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
