While the Xbox Game Pass service has proved a success across the board, one type of game has definitely a great home there. That type of game is the Live-Service title intending to make a large portion of their profits through continuous updates. Last year we saw Left 4 Dead spiritual successor Back 4 Blood benefit greatly from the exposure and easy access it saw launching on the platform, while Marvel’s Avengers which struggled most of last year to land a solid audience get a major spike in players after it arrived on the service. We can now add Ubisofts’ co-op shoot Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Extraction to that list.
Today it was announced that the game would be arriving on Xbox Game Pass on Xbox and PC as soon as it launches on January 2oth. This is not the only 4-player co-op shooter players can expect to release on the platform in January either as last month we also learned that The Anacrusis would also release this month on Xbox Game Pass in an early access form.
Additionally, this news was accompanied by the announcement Ubisoft+, Ubisoft’s subscription service which is set to feature over 100 games, will also be coming to Game Pass across Xbox and PC similar to the EA Play service. This was rumored to be happening during last year, but this marks official confirmation that it will indeed happen.
In an official press statement Chris Early, Ubisoft’s Senior Vice President of Strategic Partnerships and Business Development stated:
By making Rainbow Six Extraction available to Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass members on the day and date of its launch via Xbox Game Pass, we’re demonstrating that we believe in the value and choice that game subscriptions offer to players. Rainbow Six Extraction for Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass members is just the beginning. Ultimately, we will offer the Ubisoft+ subscription service to Xbox owners so that they can enjoy the full extent of our Ubisoft+ game library, including new releases, on their consoles.
In other news, rumors have suggested that PlayStation is working on a counter-strategy to the Game Pass, though these rumors also suggest they do not plan for heavy day one releases similar to Xbox. It will be interesting to see if PlayStation is able to get similar strategic partnerships with their service, though nothing is set in stone just yet.
