Rainbow Six: Siege Will Be Coming to Next-Gen Platforms, Says the Developer

Believe it or not, Rainbow Six: Siege is officially the longest-running franchise of Ubisoft with 4 years of consecutive support and a player base as big as 45 million people. The game became available in early years of current-gen and according to Alexandre Remy from Ubisoft, Rainbow Six: Siege will make its way through next-gen platforms with no intentions to develop a new entry anytime soon.

It seems the successful formula that Ubisoft has achieved with Rainbow Six: Siege is not going to get done by the end of current generation and the game will be coming to the new consoles as well, to still grow its community and be a bridge between two generations. Remy claims that Ubisoft wants to reach 100 playable characters at the game and the number for the roster is now 49, so they are definitely will be transitioning into 9th generation if they want to reach the milestone at any costs.

It’s still remains as a mystery that whether the game will receive any graphical enhancements for the next-gen consoles or not, but Remy confirmed that Ubisoft is in talks with both Sony and Microsoft to bring the game to their new platforms. Remy says:

The reason behind this is we don’t want to segregate our community between the different platforms. In an ideal world tomorrow, we’d love players from every platform to be able to play together. We are approaching next-gen with the same spirit. We’ve been asking how can we make the player base of Siege today be able to migrate – if they want to migrate, that is – but also make this cheaper [than buying a new, next-gen copy of the game] as much as possible or through backwards compatibility.

Rainbow Six: Siege has grossed over $1.12 billion so far

and with such a great number in revenue it’s definitely brilliant for the French company to save the title as long as possible, even if they have to move it to the next generation.
