A multitude of players are experiencing an XP bug in Modern Warfare that is causing them to either not earn XP in matches or is resetting their rank back to Rank 1 altogether.
The bug came to light in a reddit post that has since been removed, but the comments are still available to peruse. In addition, some players have reported that challenges have been affected, as they are not earning their camos nor are they able to track their challenges’ progress.
Moreover, some have reported that their Battle Pass progress remained the same after being reset back to level one, but others have indicated their Battle Pass was deactivated. The bugs seem to be affecting players on all platforms (PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One).
Another reddit post features a short clip showcasing the lack of earned XP, camos, and mission and challenge progress.
Modern Warfare is currently in the throes of a double XP event for those players who got their hands on it during the holiday season. If the aforementioned bugs are any indication, those same gamers may have a rough time catching up to veteran players with the inability to earn experience or complete challenges. With the XP bug, players may find it wise to hang onto any XP buffs residing in their inventory until a fix has been issued.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare released on October 25, 2019 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The game is a reboot of its 2007 predecessor, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Both games were developed by Infinity Ward and published by Activision.
The reboot’s single-player campaign features moral choices where players must decide whether certain NPCs are friend or foe. Based on the accuracy of their assessment, gamers are given a score from A to F ranking the “collateral damage” they caused during a mission. This rank is based on how many civilians the player killed.
