Earlier this week a Reddit user claimed to have inside knowledge as to what Rockstar Games was currently working on. The now debunked rumor stated that the team was in the middle of developing a single-player DLC for Red Dead Redemption 2 focused around aliens. The rumor also claimed that Rockstar was also working on a full-fledged remake of the original Red Dead Redemption. However, it now appears those “too good to be true” rumors are indeed just that.
The same Reddit user re-appeared recently on the post and cleared the air on the rumors. They expressed how the previous claims were nothing more than an experiment based on current video game journalism and the ongoing rumor mill within the community. While the original poster has a point where the game journalism industry does tend to get carried away with mostly believable “leaks”, there’s a reason why these skeptical details are labeled “rumors”.
As a disclaimer, anything read as rumor should be treated as so and taken extremely lightly until further confirmation from a known and reliable source. We at Gaming Instincts will never intentionally lead readers to believe a rumor to be true unless there’s substantial evidence backing up the claims. In the age of the internet where everyone has a voice, it becomes increasingly difficult to separate the wheat from the chaff, as there has been previous leaks and rumors that proved to be accurate coming from unknown or anonymous sources before – similar to what we saw earlier this week.
With all of that said, it seems as though we’ll still be waiting to learn what Rockstar is planning for the future of Red Dead Redemption 2 and the RDR series. This latest scam – or “experiment” – just goes to show that when we say “take this rumor with a grain of salt”, we actually mean it.
