SNK’s mighty weapons fighter is making a glorious comeback with the impending release of the rebooted series, Samurai Shodown. After years of dormancy, the reboot will be packed with flashy new 3D visuals with a clean manga-like art style. With a long line of classic arcade fighters in SNK’s illustrious history, it’s good to see the veteran studio bring back a beloved favorite.
SNK has recently released a new trailer showing off the 2019 weapons-based samurai fighter. The resurrection of Samurai Shodown showcases plenty of flashy moves and tight combos in what looks like a bloody brawl to the end.
Check out the latest Samurai Shodown reboot trailer below:
Samurai Shodown isn’t a direct reboot of the original, but rather a new installment during a different time period in the game’s timeline. Taking place sometime after the events of Samurai Shodown V but before the original, Samurai Shodown 2019 will bring a full roster of familiar fighters. However, within the 16 playable samurai warriors comes three all-new fighters to the saga. There’s also plans of bringing over more fighters via post-launch DLC.
With a flurry of various modes, such as player distinct story modes, practice, online and offline modes, a new feature will also introduce itself in the new fighter. Known simply as ‘Dojo’, players will have the ability to create their own CPU-controlled ghost avatar that will learn through the actions of the player. This will create a new experience for those expert fighters immune to even the toughest CPU difficulty levels, and pit an AI ghost that mirrors the fighting approach of the player themselves.
What’s more, players can fight against other fighters’ ghost through online multiplayer by downloading other ghosts in their game. This new mode seems like a perfect option to practice and hone your skills to become a true top-notch samurai fighter.
Samurai Shodown 2019 is expected to release for the PS4 and Xbox One this coming June. The game is also slated to hit the Switch and PC in Q4 of 2019.
