Resident Evil 2 – New trailer showcases Ada Wong

Capcom has released a new trailer for its upcoming Resident Evil 2 remake at Tokyo Game Show, revealing the new look of fan-favorite spy Ada Wong.

When “Resident Evil 2” first released in 1998, Ada wore a fabulous red dress. Now, like any good spy, she’s sporting a trenchcoat and dark sunglasses. Apparently, Capcom decided to ditch Ada’s iconic look because it wasn’t realistic, game director Kazunori Kadoi told Eurogamerduring this year’s Gamescom.

“It goes back to the same thing of, what would look natural to be wandering around in a photo-realistic environment in?” Kadoi said. “I think wandering around in that dress just getting on with your job as a spy probably doesn’t look as realistic and believable as we want in this new game.”

Resident Evil 2 launches on January 25, 2019 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. It’s a complete remake of the original game, featuring a third-person, over-the-shoulder perspective rather than the classic camera view. As for why the camera was changed, Capcom explained, that it wanted the experience of playing the game to be “intimately terrifying in nature, to [have] up-close and personal zombie encounters that you can only get with that kind of view.” The change also open up new possibilities for the series’ classic puzzle-solving.

According to the creative team earlier this month, the use of models made them change their entire approach to the game. Instead of just another remake, the team instead took to it as if they were making a full-fledged action movie. It makes sense with the influx of motion capture and the desire for more realistic mechanics. Because of the use of modeling however, that was the key reason behind the different aesthetic that many saw with the characters during the big E3 2018 reveal.

The same reasoning is behind the Claire and Leon redesigns, as many noticed their different body shape and more structural facial features.
