Capcom has announced that Resident Evil 2 Remake will feature both The 4th Survivor mode and Tofu mode at launch, players will have to find a way to unlock it as it probably it won’t be the same method as Resident Evil 2, Capcom shared some images of the two modes check them out here:
Both modes existed in the original 1998 Resident Evil 2, but Capcom has not announced if you’ll unlock them in the remake via the same method used in the original game. Previously, you unlocked The 4th Survivor by completing both of Leon and Claire’s scenarios with an A rank. For The Tofu Survivor, you just had to get six A ranks, but they needed to be achieved consecutively and in under two and a half hours.
The 4th Survivor is a minigame featured in the original Resident Evil 2, in this minigame players took the role of Hunk, the fourth character known to survive Raccoon City’s destruction. and guiding him through a short segment filled with enemies while having a limited supply of items.
Tofu mode was a originally conceived by Capcom to test the collision detection, but it was released as a parody to Hunk, it’s the same minigame as the 4th Survivor but it’s really hard as Tofu can only hold a knife and a few herbs, he also takes more damage than a human character.
As a funny easter egg whenever Tofu is attacked, he swears in Japanese dialect, and when he is killed, he says”farewell” in Japanese. Ironically, things don’t go very well for Tofu, as Hunk appears to be eating a part of him aboard the helicoper in the ranking screen.
