During today’s PlayStation’s Future of Gaming event
, Capcom announced Resident Evil Village, the official eight entry in the Resident Evil series. the new title is currently in development under the RE Engine, the same engine that is featured on Resident Evil 7, and Resident Evil 2 and 3. Resident Evil Village is scheduled for a 2021 launch for the PlayStation 5.
The announcement trailer confirms all the recent rumors about the series going on a different path, hallucinations and new monsters will be present in the new game, apparently is all just the side effects of the T-virus. The new trailer seems to confirm the theory that, Capcom was planning to reboot the idea of Resident Evil 3.5 where, Leon Kennedy suffered hallucinations caused by the virus, causing him insanity.

Capcom disclosed the official information about the story of Resident Evil Village, the game follows the events of Resident Evil 7 Biohazard. A new storyline begins with Ethan and his wife Mia living peacefully in a new location, free from their past nightmares.
As it was leaked by AestheticGamer and reported by Gaming Instincts, Chris Redfield appears not as the protagonist, but as an apparent antagonist, he meets Ethan and Mia and “horribly disrupts their life, leaving Ethan devastated and thrown into an entirely new nightmare”.

The first-person action in Resident Evil Village begins when players assume the role of a distraught and shattered Ethan as he seeks to uncover the mysterious new horrors that plague a once peaceful village. Throughout this terrifying journey, players will fight for every breath as they are hunted by vicious new enemies that have infested the snow-capped locale.
Channeling the capabilities of next generation consoles, the detailed realism and relentless feeling of fear will increase with each desperate battle for survival, while moments of calm will leave players wondering what new horrors await.
