EA has announced that Respawn Entertainment, the studio that created Titanfall, is working on a brand new Star Wars game.
The game maker and publisher chose May 4 to announce the news, and it comes directly from a post drafted by Executive Vice President of EA Studios Patrick Soderlund. As he rattles of all the different studios working on SW games, he announces that “EA and the talented team at Respawn Entertainment have expanded our relationship to include the development of an all-new 3rd person action adventure game set in the Star Wars universe.”
Though the news didn’t include a release window, game title, or gameplay footage, it did confirm the reason why Respawn has been hiring a slew of programmers and animators for a new “third-person action-adventure” series for nearly two years—meaning, a project other than a new Titanfall sequel. Around the same time in 2014, Respawn hired game director Stig Asmussen, who made a name for himself directing God of War 3.
“I have been playing Star Wars games my whole life, now I get to make a Star Wars game,” Asmussen wrote on Respawn’s website. “On top of that, I get to do it at Respawn, a studio comprised of the most talented collection of game makers, creators, visionaries, and (most importantly) advocates for the player, that I have had the good fortune to work with. And we, like you all, have no shortage of Star Wars passion…”
