Riot Games has confirmed the development of an MMORPG based on the League of Legends universe.
No, you’re not dreaming, we’re working on an MMORPG based in the League universe! We know MMOs take a lot of people to create, and we’ll need a pretty big raid team if we want to bring Runeterra to life. That’s where you come in. We’ll periodically post new roles, but right now we don’t have any specific openings on the team—we’re just gearing up for the journey (and need to replace our greens first).
Right now Riot Games is hiring people with “direct experience on MMOs to work on the new project:
Not much else is known about the new project, other than the fact that it’s set in the LOL universe. Fans of the franchise can expect a deep and extensive lore behind the new game. The job listing states that the studio is looking for devs with experience in MMOs, but it’s not required. Riot also encourages interested candidates to check back periodically, as the website will be updated when new positions become available.
Following the huge success of League of Legends as one of the most popular games in the esports arena and the recently released tactical FPS Valorant. Riot Games is clearly diversifying its portfolio and it’s quickly becoming a big game development company and publisher.
Riot Games was founded in 2006 by Brandon Beck and Marc Merrill with the intent to change the way video games are made and supported for players. In 2009, Riot released its debut title League of Legends to worldwide acclaim. The game has since gone on to become one of the most played PC games and shortly became a key driver of the explosive growth of eSports.
