This image was teased by the developer Psyonix in a twitter message that asked its followers “Who wants a teaser for something we’re releasing later this year?”, after this message was revealed a picture of a Rocket League stadium with a giant neo basketball hoop and backboard at the goal-end. It was also revealed in the picture that the stadium had the three-point line, suggesting that players can get bonus points for scoring at a certain distance.
This isn’t the first time we see another sport being implemented in Rocket League, last year it was introduced the ice hockey mode that you can see in the following trailer:
Rocket League Dev also said the following in its twitter:
A basketball mode would fundamentally change how Rocket League plays. The critically acclaimed indie title is famous for its soccer-but-with-cars conceit, tasking players to score goals by throttling their vehicles against a giant ball. Going by the image, a basketball mode would require players to flight the ball in order to score. Since airborne ball control is one of the trickiest skills to master in Rocket League, such a mode may have been designed with core fans in mind.
As of February 26, Rocket League had reached 12 million players and 4 million copies sold across Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
