Rocket League F2P on September 23

Psyonix has finally revealed that Rocket League will be free to play on September 23, the developer announced a new update that will prepare the game for the important arrival of new players. The game will feature cross-platform across consoles and PC, including between the Epic Games Store and Steam.

Here is what’s featured in today’s update:

  • Cross-Platform Progression Linking – Existing players will be able to link their platforms to their Epic Games Account.

  • Legacy Status Items – Players that already own and have played Rocket League will receive their Legacy items

  • Support-A-Creator Live – Rocket League will join the Epic Games Support-A-Creator program. Beginning tomorrow, players will be able to enter a Creator Code in the Item Shop which allows Creators to earn 5% of Credits Spent when their Creator Code is used

  • Various Quality of Life Changes and Additions

Psyonix also announced a new in-game event called Llama-Rama, the new competition will start on September 23. More information will be shared on the following days.

Rocket League action on the field will still be the same core, high-octane hybrid of sports and action you love today, and soon, even more players will share that love. That begins with Rocket League’s release on its newest platform: the Epic Games Store.

Once Rocket League goes free to play, anyone who already owns Rocket League on any platform (including Steam) will be able to play and enjoy the game with full support for future updates and features. However, the Steam version will no longer be available to download for new players. To put it simply, wherever you play now (including Steam), you’ll still be able to play in the future.

Thanks to a partnership with Tencent, Psyonix launched Rocket League for free in China in early 2020, the decision has been proved successful as a larger population, and cosmetic micro-transactions became profitable for both Tencent and Psyonix.
