Rockstar Confirms Grand Theft Auto VI In Development

After about a year of speculation, with conflicting rumors suggesting would see the game as early as 2023 or possibly 2025, Rockstar Games has finally confirmed that the long-awaited Grand Theft Auto VI is in development. Not only that, but their statement said that development on the title is “well underway.”

While not its official title yet, it is presumed that this game in the long-running franchise will be titled Grand Theft Auto VI which would keep with the naming scheme of the games HD universe which began with GTA IV in 2008. Outside of the fact it exists, very little was revealed about the upcoming title.

The reveal itself was contained within a community update for everything GTA, including GTA V, itself set to receive another release on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on March 15, and has a lot of content set to release this year. The update stated:

With the unprecedented longevity of GTAV, we know many of you have been asking us about a new entry in the Grand Theft Auto series. With every new project we embark on, our goal is always to significantly move beyond what we have previously delivered — and we are pleased to confirm that active development for the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series is well underway. We look forward to sharing more as soon as we are ready, so please stay tuned to the Rockstar Newswire for official details.

Grand Theft Auto V

found massive popularity in its online mode Grand Theft Auto Online, which helped it become the most lucrative IP in existence. This success was so pronounced that early plans for story-driven DLC were scrapped in favor of constant updates to the online portion of the title, which has kept the game relevant since its release nearly a decade ago in 2013.

Rumors for the upcoming GTA have suggested that it will be set in its Florida-based city of Vice City. It is also rumored to feature a smaller map with plans to expand the map over time, with a focus on online being built heavily into the concept. We will have to wait before we learn what to expect with any certainty.
