A new rumor has surfaced regarding a new mode hitting the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare title. While many fans are eager to get their hands on a much more traditional multiplayer Call of Duty equipped with the return of the single player campaign, the new rumor points towards a free-to-play battle royale mode landing on Infinity Ward’s upcoming entry.
The rumor comes from well-known leaker LongSensation and claims that the free-to-play battle royale mode will not only land on Modern Warfare sometime in early 2020, but is a standalone release on the PS4, Xbox One and PC. Apparently players will not require the base game in order to hop into the battle royale mode.
Since these are only rumors for now they should be taken very cautiously. However, this particular source has been accurate before so it’s still pretty exciting even if we haven’t received an official confirmation.
Regardless, it is a bit interesting to see the Call of Duty franchise release two separate battle royale modes considering most publishers/developers find it easier to simply milk one battle royale title instead of releasing multiple versions. However, making the new battle royale mode for Modern Warfare – which is also said to be connected to the core of the base game – free-to-play is a solid effort by Activision which – if done properly – could bring in even more players to the Call of Duty experience.
Stay tuned for more on this rumor as right now we have no official confirmation on if it’s a correct assumption or not.
