Today it was leaked a Gamestop listing that has started a lot of rumors, that the next Call of Duty game from Activision, will be called Call of Duty: Black Ops 4.
Eurogamer’s sources said that Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is currently in development at Treyarch – an Activision Studio that made the previous Black Ops games – and is expected to launch this year.
Eurogamer also reports that Treyarch will not implement as much sci-fi elements as the controversial Call of Duty:Infinite Warfare, to “better fit the series’ recent desire for a more grounded feeling.”
The beginning of this rumor and speculations about this year’s Call of duty game, was because last week, Marcus Stellars, a Nintendo-focused writer, tweeted that Black ops 4 was in development for Playstation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One, as well as the Nintendo Switch.
Here’s the tweet from Marcus Stellars:
Eurogamer said in an article on their website that:
“The Black Ops storyline so far has covered the Cold War, near future, and a further time period in 2065. In particular, Black Ops 3 had a fully sci-fi focus – something which Black Ops 4 will dial back to better fit the series’ recent desire for a more grounded feeling – in response to the negative feedback surrounding 2016’s space-set Infinite Warfare.”
Update:
Activision confirmed that this year will see the release of another Call of Duty title and that Treyach is the studio working on it. Call of Duty WW2 from last year, was largely well-received by fans and there was a increase in the sales of the franchise, so the decision to keep going with the series has surprised no one.
“This fall, we plan to continue to exceed fans’ expectations with a new release from Treyarch — the creators of Black Ops, the most successful subfranchise in Call of Duty history — and we cannot wait to share more about that with you on future calls,” said Coddy Johnson, president and chief operating officer of Activision.
