A new leak has surfaced over the waves of 4chan which suggests yet another supposed release date for the highly anticipated Naughty Dog title, The Last of Us Part 2. This latest leak comes from an anonymous source (not surprisingly) claiming to know someone working with Naughty Dog.
The leak goes on to suggest that Naughty Dog initially planned to release the game this coming winter (though the leak itself has what we assumed to be an error stating “winter 2020”) but has since been pushed back into spring 2020 due to the game warranting various texture and animation improvements.
The leak also claims that we should be receiving an announcement for the release date reveal sometime this coming fall. Apparently – and this is suggested purely from an unknown “source” – Naughty Dog plans to release The Last of Us Part 2 on May 22, 2020. The game has already been confirmed to release as a PS4 exclusive as Naughty Dog is one of Sony’s first party studios.
Now, take this rumor with a huge grain of salt. Unknown sources have accurately made claims that turned out to be true in the past, but more often than not these supposed “leaks” are nothing more than misinformation coming from attention seekers. Our only option at this point is to await the alleged fall announcement for the official release date.
On another note, a second leak has also surfaced coming from the same Naughty Dog/Sony meeting which points towards a brand new IP from the developers. Code-named “Stray’s Cross”, the new IP is said to be a first person action-adventure title for next-gen set in a steampunk world. The new game will have the player taking on two roles – a female former scientist and a former construction worker now a wanted criminal.
The story of the new IP is a bit scarce so far, but the leak claims the two protagonists meet under certain circumstances in the beginning and stick together in order to ward off an ongoing conflict that’s lasted for “ages”. In order to protect and save all of humanity, the two must work together and fight against the dangerous threat.
There’s not much else to go on, but if this leak is true – and again, take this rumor extremely lightly – Stray’s Cross sounds like a rather interesting departure from Naughty Dog’s previous IP.
Stay tuned.
