Rumor: New Version of Nintendo Switch In Development
The Nintendo Switch has exceeded everyone’s expectations about what a portable console can do, and Nintendo has the vision on how to make the modest hardware even better.
According to Japanese magazine Nikkei and translated by Nintendo Everything there is a rumor about Nintendo working on a smaller and cheaper version of Nintendo Switch, Nintendo will also release a new service for players “willing to pay more”.
Even though Nintendo didn’t gave many details the new Switch along with the new subscription service is planned to launch this year and while we haven’t heard anything official from Nintendo, Nikkei is a reliable source.
“They’re taking measures as for what is to come – one of those being a smaller version of the Switch. The company said that ‘couldn’t comment’ on their plans for the product, but has informed multiple suppliers and game development companies that they intend to release them as early as 2019. According to their affiliates, they are ‘miniaturizing the console with portability and playing outdoors in mind, as well as cutting features to reduce the price and expand the userbase.’”
“The Switch’s monthly online service launched in 2018, and plan to launch a new service aimed at game enthusiasts willing to pay more sometime in 2019.”
Nintendo’s goal is to expand it’s user base, and making the console cheaper it’s a good idea, but I can’t imagine which features might be removed from the already modest system, I can only imagine ditching the dock and going with a cheaper display, and while it might not encourage many hardcore Nintendo fans to get a cheaper version of the Switch, it may be the perfect Christmas present for your little brother.
